Drainage & Grading
Prevent Flooding & Foundation Damage
Managing stormwater to protect your property
Proper drainage is critical to avoid large repair bills from damage caused by excessive water infiltration, erosion, and flooding. But not every property is designed to divert water away from your home or prevent water from over-saturating the yard.
Adding a properly-designed and well-functioning drainage system can save you thousands of dollars on property damage.
Riverbend Landscapes & Tree Service provides custom stormwater management, grading solutions, French drains, and water retention systems to suit every type of landscape in Northern Virginia. Give your yard the protection it needs to remain healthy through any storm or excessive rainfall.
Stormwater Management & Water Retention Systems
Heavy amounts of rain can be harmful to your landscape, causing floods, killing lawns and plants, and paving the way for a mosquito breeding ground. Investing in a professional stormwater management or water retention system prevents flooding that can damage your home, puts an end to overly-saturated soil, and gives you more usable outdoor space.
To determine the extent of your drainage problem, we first assess your current yard layout, with particular attention to high and low points. Our drainage experts can quickly identify any areas that need drainage assistance and recommend the best remediation options.
We offer a full range of stormwater management systems, including catch basins, dry creek beds, French drainage systems, gutter downspout extensions, infiltration trenches, and regrading. With so many options, we're able to provide a drainage solution for any situation and budget.
Regrading
The type of soil you have, and how it's graded, determines how well your yard will drain. For example, if the soil around your foundation isn’t properly sloped away from your home or has a negative grade, then your home will be prone to flooding and damage to its foundation.
In many cases, regrading the soil can alleviate the problem. By adding, removing, or moving soil around your property, we can encourage water to flow away from your home or overly-saturated parts of your yard and/or toward areas that will benefit from additional moisture.
Our team of soil grading experts will evaluate your yard to identify any problems with soil placement or grading. We'll then carefully modify the landscape to improve drainage and avoid water retention problems.
You'll also receive a record of any potential risks of erosion found during our evaluation and grading processes to ensure your yard remains in great health throughout each season.
French Drain Installation
Sometimes, installing a French drainage system is a great alternative to grading. When properly installed, a French drainage system prevents water from flowing toward your home, flooding your yard, or creating soggy spots where plants cannot grow.
A French drain consists of a ditch or trench into which a large, perforated pipe is placed. The trench is filled with gravel to allow water from the surrounding soil to easily infiltrate into the pipe. Water is carried through the pipe and emptied into a storm drain, drainage ditch, or another spot where it won't harm your foundation, lawn, or plantings. Basically, the system is designed to take excess water from your yard and redirect it somewhere else.
